Honouring Black History Month in the UK

October marks Black History Month in the United Kingdom—a time dedicated to recognising and celebrating the enduring contributions of individuals of African and Caribbean heritage to the cultural, social, and political fabric of this nation.

This year’s observance carries particular historical significance, as it commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act of 1965. This landmark legislation was the first of its kind in the UK, prohibiting racial discrimination in public places and laying the groundwork for future advancements in equality and civil rights.

At Blackbaud, we are proud to honour this pivotal moment in British history and to stand alongside others in amplifying the stories, achievements, and milestones that shape Black history and culture. As part of our commemoration, employees are participating in a range of educational and community-focused initiatives. These include an employee-led webinar exploring the legacy of the Race Relations Act and its impact over the past six decades, as well as volunteering efforts to support young Black and underrepresented individuals through career development workshops hosted by a local not-for-profit organisation.
