Edinburgh International Festival Develops Donor Relationships Using The Raiser’s Edge®

Founded in 1947, the Edinburgh International Festival connects artists and audiences during a three week period every August. During this time Edinburgh’s major theatres and concert halls, as well as smaller and less conventional venues too, come alive with the best classical music, theatre, opera, dance and visual art from around the globe.

Edinburgh International Festival is responsible for funding all of its own activities, and as a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity, its budget is a carefully balanced mix of income raised from ticket sales, fundraising and sponsorship along with various public sector grants.

Challenge

  • Edinburgh International Festival used several disparate databases to manage its fundraising activities, however it was felt that there could be a more efficient way to manage tasks and build lasting relationships.
  • The systems in use didn’t talk to one another and it was extremely difficult to get an overall picture of contacts and their history.
  • It was extremely difficult for Edinburgh International Festival to build relationships when they didn’t know anything about a person.

Solution

  • Edinburgh International Festival’s box office already used The Patron Edge®, and it made perfect sense to bring on board a fundraising solution that would create a link between the two systems.
  • The Raiser’s Edge was implemented to create this link and provide the functionality and flexibility required in terms of donor and member management.
  • Integration between the two systems ensures a record of ticket sales is kept in each relevant member record, meaning relationships can be easily created and nurtured.

Results

  • The Raiser’s Edge has helped Edinburgh International Festival to create a pipeline of donors, with a complete history of how much each has donated and which events they have attended.
  • Querying and reporting is a simple process with detailed information readily available on funds raised against targets, and staff can be more proactive in terms of activities and targeting as a result.
  • All donor communications can now be personalised, meaning staff can easily contact members with information that is of interest to them, making the experience so much more personal.
