Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A day on, not a day off

Today, Americans and people everywhere will pause to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—a civil and human rights champion who fought to extend the promise of a fair and just world to all. Dr. King was a global figure; his commitment to social justice and human rights is relevant everywhere.

During his lifetime, Dr. King worked toward a dream of universal equality and opportunity—which is at the core of our higher purpose of helping good take over the world. We see his dream being brought to life in many ways, including the efforts of our customers and employees to give back and do good.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King talked about the critical role that each of us plays in creating a better world. He challenged us to not just sit on the sidelines and hope that things get better, but to commit ourselves to creating the future we want for ourselves and our children.

Social good happens when people roll up their sleeves and make it happen. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only U.S. federal holiday designated as a national day of service. It is designed to encourage people to volunteer to strengthen their communities. As we commemorate King Day this year, we challenge you to see what you can do locally in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy. Instead of a ‘day off’, consider opting for a ‘day on’!

Happy King Day 2021!
