Hope for Children

Uses Blackbaud everydayhero to Engage with New Markets

Hope for Children is a UK based charity, founded in 1994 to improve the quality of life and advance the rights of children. The Charity works in nine different countries across Asia, Africa and Europe, supporting projects which help children in very different circumstances and levels of poverty.

The Charity undertakes a range of fundraising activities in order to achieve its mission, such as climbs, marathons, skydives and major donor fundraising, but a large part of the fundraising programme is taken up with international events which invite people to take part in activities, raising funds through sponsorship.


To meet with demands arising from organisational growth, it was felt that an investment should be made in new technology, such as a new website and fundraising database. Staff at Hope for Children were obviously keen to ensure that funds were utilised as effectively as possible, so embarked upon research to identify how and why people made contact with the Charity and what their expectations were from this perspective.

David Rees, Fundraising Manager at Hope for Children commented, “Our research showed that the most popular way for people to engage with us was through online fundraising pages, however as these were all provided to us from external organisations, we were really limited on the information that we could glean from them, and we had no real way to capitalise on this newly identified opportunity.”


As part of the technology overhaul, the Charity went out to tender, and included a solution for online fundraising pages within their requirements.

“Blackbaud’s response to our tender was without a doubt the best fit for our Charity,” added David. “The synergy between their products was great. The Raiser’s Edge® fundraising solution integrates seamlessly with Blackbaud everydayhero which provides us with the platform that we needed to reach out to new and existing audiences.”


Hope for Children has been using Blackbaud Heroix for over a year now and staff are very impressed with the software.

“It’s changed the way that we connect with our fundraisers,” explained David. “It provides us and our fundraisers with ‘at a glance’ results on monies raised, targets set and where we are in respect of this. But most importantly, it’s not a generic site – it’s a Hope for Children branded fundraising page, which appears as part of our own website.”

“We’re not a large charity, so for us the personal touch is really important to keep our brand in the minds of our supporters and keep them close to the organisation. Blackbaud everydayhero helps to do this, which in turn will change short-term fundraisers into long-term supporters of the Charity,” added David.

David is also very impressed with integration between Blackbaud everydayhero and The Raiser’s Edge. “Having both Blackbaud everydayhero and The Raiser’s Edge ensures that we can maintain one single view of each and every one of our supporters,” explained David. Integration between the two ensures that records are automatically updated with all information from Blackbaud everydayhero, meaning we can be confident that we are acting on the most up to date information available.”
