Speakers at the Relationship Management Conference 2010

We're delighted to welcome back some great speakers from previous years and introduce you to many new speakers for our 2009 Conference. If you would like more information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Michael Auton Michael has worked in the charity sector for the last 23 years covering a wide spectrum of charitable causes ranging from tree planting in West Africa, saving whales and dolphins, Alzheimer’s disease, child bed wetting and meningitis. His current role at the National Osteoporosis Society is to manage the recruitment and servicing of donors through a programme of appeals, raffles, regular giving activity and leaflet distribution. The charity took a decision at the end of 2009 to test telephone fundraising for donors and members. It has proved very successful and has now become a significant part of the direct marketing programme for the charity. Gift Aid promotion based round a combination of postal and telephone work. 

John Baguley PhD MBA is the CEO of the International Fundraising Consultancy which has offices in five countries and partners around the world. He is a trustee of the Institute of Fundraising in the UK and the Institute of Professional Fundraising in Ukraine. Author of “Successful Fundraising”, “Direct Mail Fundraising” and “Choosing and Using Consultants”, his PhD “The Globalisation of Non-Governmental Organisations” has recently been published by VDM. John is a well known speaker at conferences and workshops worldwide. Well known for galvanising Amnesty International and Friends of the Earth in the 80s and early 90s, he also worked for Oxfam and The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. In 2000, he founded the International Fundraising Consultancy www.internationalfundraisingconsultancy.com and recently established the free fundraising advisory clinic First Fridays (‘First Friday Fundraisers’ on Facebook), and Wikifund the fundraising wiki at www.wikifund.info. 

Nick Boaden trained at Newcastle College. After completing a two year course in Leisure Management he had the option of going to Sunderland University and converting to a degree, or working part time in the Marketing Department of the Theatre Royal in Newcastle and is happy to say that he made the right decision by taking the job. Since then he’s worked in touring and producing venues, both large and small, including two years spent as a freelance Press Officer (award winning) at Darlington Civic Theatre and at the Arts Centre, followed by Middlesbrough Theatre, where he eventually became Assistant Manager. After that it was off to Leeds where he was Head of Communications at Leeds’ World Famous City Varieties (Home of the Good Old Days) before moving on to West Yorkshire Playhouse where he is now Head of Marketing.


Ciara Bosworth has almost a decade of experience working in, and with, the fundraising sector. From starting out as a Database Assistant with the National Deaf Children’s Society, through supporting the systems merger of ChildLine and the NSPCC and as a consultant with Blackbaud, Ciara has gained a wealth of experience and industry knowledge. Now the Head of Database Services for Shelter, Ciara is delighted to be speaking at this years’ Blackbaud Conference and is looking forward to networking and having the opportunity to share ideas & best practise with peers, colleagues and friends.

Pam Brueck is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at O-matic Software where she has worked to rebrand and launch numerous products into the marketplace, develop the roadmap of products, and manage the worldwide partnerships with Blackbaud. Pam oversees all training of sales representatives, answering of questions, and assisting clients in their evaluation of Import-O-Matic.  She also manages the O-matic sales and marketing team.Before joining O-matic, Pam worked as an Account Manager at Blackbaud. During her time with Blackbaud, she worked with clients to help resolved issues and better utilize Blackbaud's toolsets.Pam holds a bachelor's of science in business from Clemon University with a major in marekting and minor in advertising.

Simon Burne BA, MA, FInsF, joined THINK Consulting Solutions from NCH where he was Director of Marketing and Fundraising.  Before that, he was Director of Fundraising and Communications at Acorns Children’s Hospice, where he had overall responsibility for fundraising and marketing. He has been involved in voluntary sector management, strategy and marketing for twenty five years, first at Intermediate Technology (now Practical Action), and subsequently at The Children’s Society.  He specialises in strategic planning, organisational reviews, direct marketing, major gift fundraising, integrated marketing, PR and brand management. From 2002 to 2005, Simon was Chair of the UK Institute of Fundraising and has written and talked extensively on marketing, PR and fundraising issues.  In his spare time, Simon writes and directs musicals for young people, is a lay preacher and a youth leader in his church.

Jason Cobine is widely recognised as a leading expert on how to generate income using Word of Mouth. Jason has published articles, interviews and contributed to the some of Amazon’s top selling books on the subject of income generation.

James Coleman
Is the Database Manager in the University of Glasgow's Development & Alumni Office. He has worked with Raiser's Edge in its many incarnations since the early 1990s.

Simon Collins
OneCRM Project Manager at the British Heart Foundation, began his career in the IT Industry running EPOS system implementation projects for Sainsbury’s. Simon has worked in a variety of industry sectors including Retail, FMCG and IT and ran his own IT business for 10 years selling to a Venture Capital fund in 2004 when he moved on to work in the NFP sector.  Simon prefers to focus on deriving business benefit from technology rather than the technology itself and his role bridges the gap between business managers and technologists.

Dan Dufour Senior Planner, works with clients to create, refresh and reposition brands in the charity sector. Previous projects include re-branding the Parkinson's Disease Society to Parkinson's UK and the Pedestrian Association to Living Streets. Dan was previously Brand Manager at Shelter, leading the development and implementation of their new brand identity and strategy. Prior to transforming Shelter Dan enjoyed working on the FULL STOP campaign at the NSPCC, where he refreshed their brand guidelines and scooped awards for using mobile phones and SMS to engage young people.     2.Debbie Clark, Planner, has worked in fundraising agencies for eight years. In that time she has worked with the likes of RSPB, Save the Children, Christian Aid, Cancer Research UK, Arthritis Research UK and many more. Within these relationships Debbie focuses on being the voice of the donor, using insights into donor motivations and behaviours to develop impressive campaign propositions and effective marketing programmes.

Richard Evans After having studied marketing as part of a degree in German & Management Studies at Leeds University, Richard Evans began his working life as a translator before moving to an international manufacturing company as an Account Executive.  He joined the DMA in 2006 as a Compliance Officer before being promoted to the manager’s role in 2008.  Since then his remit has expanded to include managing the DMA Legal team.  His main role is to ensure that all DMA members abide by the Direct Marketing Code of Practice, which includes offering help and support on legal and best practice issues to member companies.

Suki Gallagher
As Head of Partnerships for Everyclick, Suki has a proven executive management track record and over 25 year experience in driving sales growth. Prior to joining Everyclick Suki was a highly experience professional working across the spectrum of banking, leasing and broking within the technology industry. She has been recognised for outstanding business performance and was Finalist of the Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2009.  Suki is passionate about Philanthropy and has been a dedicated volunteer and speaker for Cancer Research UK for 12 years and she was awarded the Flame of Hope Award – Ambassadour of the Year 2008 by Cancer Research UK, and was presented with the Ambassadour for Life, for RaceforLife by HRH Princess Alexandra. Suki has appeared on Natasha Kaplinski’s Channel 4 program on Surviving Cancer.  Suki is currently serving on the Development Board of the UCLH Cancer Centre Appeal.

Polly Gowers is the founder and CEO of Everyclick Ltd, an award winning technology company. Sarah Gee is a fundraiser, marketer and micro-philanthropist. She works as a consultant through Indigo Ltd, and founded the philanthropic crowdfunding site AngelShares.com in 2010.  She's passionate about engaging with audiences and donors, and putting the fun back into fundraising.

John Grain John is a fundraiser of more than 20 years experience. He has particular expertise in strategic development, individual giving, and stewardship and retains a keen interest in creativity and innovation within the sector.

Brandon Granger is a senior interaction designer specializing in Blackbaud NetCommunity™ and Friends Asking Friends™. Since joining Blackbaud in 2006, Brandon's focus is designing Blackbaud's products to be useful and useable by continually learning about the needs of our customers and their supporters. Before coming to Blackbaud, Brandon worked as an product manager and interactive designer building online communities for universities such Harvard, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. After graduating from University of North Texas with a degree in Film Studies, Brandon began his career as an information architect at Collin College.

Wilder Gutterson With twenty years’ successful fundraising experience on both sides of the Atlantic, Wilder remains committed to helping fundraisers become more authentic and confident, from negotiating with a donors to winning cooperation from a Trustee.

Kevin Kibble Kevin Kibble is highly experienced fundraiser and speaks at conferences wherever individual giving is an important element.

Roger Lawson
A renowned speaker, Roger uses his experience of bringing integrated campaigns to life in and with charities as varied as WWF, Christian Aid, RSPB and Friends of the Earth to provide practical and straightforward advice. 

Cationa MacKay
From on-stage performing to arts marketing via box office, Catriona Mackay has a wide range of experience within the arts sector.  Working in box offices in Ayr, Glasgow and Edinburgh as a student, Catriona began to get a feel for the behind-the-scenes aspect of working in the arts and – after graduating – quickly made a side-step from sales into marketing.  Working for Glasgow’s Concert Halls during the early part of her career, Catriona worked her way up the ranks from “Events Promotion Assistant” to “Marketing and Data Officer” – a role which recognised her partiality for audience data analysis and data capture.  Unusual job titles continue to this day, her current position being “Audience Initiatives Manager” with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, where she leads in web development, new media marketing, campaign evaluation and audience development initiatives. Catriona recently presented at The Ticketing Institute’s Event at the Arts Marketing Association 2011 conference fringe. As well as her work with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Catriona owns two small businesses: she manages, musically directs and performs with Rhapsody String Quartet – an ensemble she founded seven years ago – and also works as a freelance web designer, specialising in websites for small businesses and community groups.  In the very little spare time that remains, Catriona is a Formula One addict and loves hill walking and skiing with her partner James.

Peter Maple is course director for the LSBU MSc programme in charity marketing and fundraising.

Paul Marvell is Director of Learning at the Institute of Fundraising, the professional association for fundraisers in the UK.   Paul began his working life in the retail sector after graduating and joined DIY retailer Homebase as a training officer, before spending time in shop floor management positions in various stores. He then moved into the position of Retail Training Manager at which time he gained his qualifications in HR.  Beginning his third sector career at visual impairment charity RNIB, he moved to the British Red Cross in December 2000 as the charity’s first Head of Regional Fundraising, before being appointed Head of Major Donors and Events.   Paul left the British Red Cross to become Director of Fundraising and Communications at AMREF (African Medical & Research Foundation) where he led on the development and implementation of a new fundraising strategy.   In his spare time Paul enjoys travel, golf, gardening and live music.

Jeffrey Montgomery Jeffrey is a former Blackbaud developer that has worked with Blackbaud API's for over 10 years. His company O-matic Software has been a Blackbaud partner since 2004 and has over a dozen solutions for the Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge.

Iain Pritchard
Iain is a partner at charity specialists, Sayer Vincent, where he leads on engagements involving information systems and technology. With more than 25 years’ industry experience, Iain advises a broad range of charities, membership organisations, associations and trusts. Iain speaks regularly on strategic planning for IT, organisational change management and benefits realisation, and sits on a number of specialist charity committees and steering groups.

Warren Sherliker is owner of the SmartTHING. SmartTHING are an established consultancy providing stunning website design and development services, along with support for Blackbaud's NetCommunity and Raiser's Edge products. We have unique membership schemes which provide free tools for these products and much more. Rosemary Smith
Opt-4 advises organisations on data protection compliance and the maximization of marketing permissions. Rosemary Smith is an ex-chairman of the DMA Board and a tutor for the Institute of Direct Marketing, She has enjoyed presenting at the Blackbaud confererence for the last five years.

Chewy Trewhella
is a New Business Development Manager at Google. His job is to make technical things accessible and relevant to non-technical people. He is particularly knowledgeable about Google's APIs and webmaster programmes. He has a B.Eng in Software Engineering and he's been with Google since November 2005. When he's not at work, he likes to play the banjo and sleep.

Reuben Turner Reuben Turner is Creative Director of The Good Agency, Europe's largest communications agency dedicated to fundraising, campaigning and good causes.Matthew Sherrington is MD of The Good Agency, and has over 20 years not-for-profit experience with organisations such as Greenpeace and Oxfam.

Karl Vosper
20 years experience within the ticketing industry ranging from working in and managing Box Office and Front of House operations to the sale, implementation, training and support of ticketing software and hardware solutions.

Ivan Wainewright
has been working in IT for more than 20 years in consultancy, customer support, training and sales. He has been working with the not-for-profit sector since 1994 and set up his consultancy business in 1998.  He offers independent database advice and consultancy solely to charities, the arts, the not-for-profit sector, and membership organisations/professional bodies.  His key skill-sets include: assistance with procurement and reviewing of database systems, project management and working on database implementations and database integration projects, needs analysis and process management projects, and data analysis on existing databases.

David Zeidman is an experienced software developer and business analyst, currently living in London. Before working in the not-for-profit sector, David worked within various industries analysing and developing solutions and implementing change across a wide arena.  David has lived and worked in London, the U.S. and Sweden. David founded Zeidman Development in order to address the specific needs of fundraising organisations regarding their use of Blackbaud's software including The Raiser’s Edge and more recently Blackbaud Enterprise CRM. The company aims to facilitate fundraisers in the customisation and subsequent maintenance of applications, allowing their use of their software to accommodate the individual structure and requirements of their organisations.
